💡 Overhead and profit are included in every line item, beyond just labor and materials, for the subcontractor. When you become the General Contractor (GC), you oversee and coordinate the trades, taking on a new role. Roofing sales organizations often hire subcontractors, making them GCs. Companies like Tom Smith Home Roofing aren’t hammering themselves; they’re subcontracting. The key differenc...

Thank you so much for the sketch videos, they are super helpful for someone that is just starting out using Xactimate. I would love for you to create a how to on roof sketches that show how to incorporate dormers and in particular, dormers that have no sidewalls, the rakes just go back into the roof!
SKETCH
Thank you so much
Thank you very much. Do you have an updated version of the Prep?
We don't at the mome.
Thanks, i always learn something:)
Stairs please.
Alena, Thank you for the tips. you are the best! I learned something new today.

Excellent as always. On the elevation view, it is important which side of the wall the arrow is pointing at. If it on an exterior wall you will need to keep in mind the one-foot extension to the wall area below elevation.
I'm working on an estimate that contains 2 rooms below the stairs. One at the end as a closet and one close to the front as a bedroom closet. Is there a way to split the room below stairs?
Thank you for the plethora of knowledge in this video! I am wondering what link you were on for the “Roofing Prices in Xactimate” portion at 12:00. Please and thank you:D
At the end of your videos can you show us, the viewers, a side-by-side comparable estimate of your revised settlement page next to the adjusters settlement page(s) that you are analyzing/recommending (redacted as needed) so we can see a like-for-like comparison of RCV/ACV in regard to what you are coaching to? No doubt there are errors to the adjuster and contractor side. However, I’m curious as to when an estimate is near but not far off when does it become worth the contractors time/resources to not try to come to come to an agreement with the adjuster vs. spending working hours behind a screen and a keyboard rather than a phone call to come to an agreed scope and figures?
How can I tell if my estimate is acv. Or rcv

Great information. It looks like the same language "independent of any final cleaning at the end of the job if warranted" is also found with the removal of shingles and felt. Shouldn't the same reasoning be applied here? My subs do a great job cleaning up after the job picking up obvious debris. What isn't obvious are all the nails around the perimeter of the home that can be hidden in grass, flower beds, window wells, weeds, etc. I've found them 20+ ft from the home. They go back with magnets for a final cleanup of these nails. I also go back for a final cleanup for the nails to prevent injuries of someone stepping on them. Probably takes the 4 guys .5 hours with my subs and an extra hour for me. Also, the removal of shingles and felt disposal does not include disposal of new materials waste like waste from new shingles, ridge/hip cap (new and old), drip edge, turtle vents, flashings, packaging's, etc. It takes extra time to clean up and dispose of these materials.
Is there a way to transfer the eagle view diagram to exactimate if you already had the report before integrating the 2 systems together?

Every supplement I see now is fluffed to do 1 of 3 things. 1. Open up negotiations to try to give and take to get the price higher. 2. Open up a possibility for a re inspection from a senior adjuster or an engineer. 3. Begin the appraisal process. It amazes me the amount a roof would cost if we allow the supplements. I just kicked one back TODAY requesting $1,400 a SQ for a roof in Minnesota. Just a regular 6:12 pitch 1 story laminate shingles roof. Retail for this roof is about $450 a sq. So it amazes me that since insurance is paying it should cost $950 a SQ more than retail? Oddly enough I wrote the estimate for $804 a SQ and that’s where it will stay. My point. Just because it’s a line item in xact doesn’t mean it should be used! A well written roof estimate holds north of 40% profit at least these days. This should be enough!

I am working in Xact's workbook and am running into where most of my roofing measurements are right except for a few. It is frustrating because I can't just change one thing without throwing everything off. I'm wondering if anyone would have any tips for that. Looks like a couple of my ridge measurements are off.
There are locks you can set on the sketch that prevents them from changing. This should allow you to change the ones you want without impacting the locked ones. You can also type your lengths instead of dragging lines to reach specific measurements.

Nice explanation. Are we still able to view the "normal" EV PDF report on the EV account ? Is there a way to add missing walls over a given square footage? Thank you
Yes, you will still receive the "normal EV PDF in your email.
Very helpful. Thank you!
VERY confusing for a beginner trying to learn about macros.

Fantastic presentation for newbies like me. THANKS
Great video with great advice.
I saw where I can use the camera on my phone to sketch the room. Is there a way I can do this on an android phone that does not have Lidar on it? Thank you in advance for the help
No. The only way to do this is with an Apple product and Lidar.
@@EstimateMastery do you think it is worth the money to get apple products for it?
Couple extra dollars per line item really makes a difference. I think if you’re careful with the percentage you’re adding, this is a nice little trick
How do you do this in X1? I tried duplicating it but the copy dropdown menu does not any other profile options
You will need to download the missing profile. From the dashboard, select Tools. You will see the additional available profiles.
I liked your presentation and even learned a few tricks. Thanks for that. I went to your link and it took me to a roofer’s estimate page. I noticed on your rights reserved statement on line 5 that you might want to adjust the wording. Keep up the good work.
you are awesome. I always learn something new :)
